Our History

Our History

4th Washington is the newest scout group in Washington and officially launched on the 23rd May 2013 with beavers making their promise (being invested) watched by parents, carers and members of the local community at a ceremony at Lumley Castle in Chester-Le-Street.

Since it's launch, the group has added a cub section (launched December 2013) and a scout section (launched May 2015) taking it up to around 80 members aged 6 to 14. All sections have been launched with the support of Houghton-Le-Spring District and the scout section was also supported by Youth United Foundation which provided funding and volunteer recruitment support into the section.

The group has been based since it's launch at Lambton Primary and with support from the school has made it the home of many busy activity nights with more and more young people joining the group.

The team of volunteers continues to grow across all sections as well as the important team of people who help behind the scenes forming the group executive.

5 Year Anniversary Camp

In April 2018 the group celebrated it's 5 year anniversary with beavers, cubs and scouts spending a weekend together at Moor House Adventure Centre. Our celebrations took place as only our group knows how, with lots of activities, lots of friends and some special opportunities for families to get involved in our family fun day. With 60 young people and volunteers taking part, it was the biggest event the group has ever held.

Going Virtual

During 2020 the group went virtual as scouts suspended face to face meetings during the corona virus pandemic. We captured the spirit of scouting, brought young people together and achieved so much despite the challenges we faced.
